Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
Devotional:
In our journey of faith, it is important for us to understand the incredible blessing that comes with seeking the kingdom of God. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus teaches us a valuable lesson about the difference between the gentiles and the believers. While the gentiles are consumed with seeking after worldly things, often leading to sorrow and disappointment, believers are called to a higher purpose – seeking the kingdom of God.
The world around us constantly bombards us with messages that promote self-centeredness, materialism, and the pursuit of temporary pleasures. We see people striving to accumulate wealth, fame, and power, thinking that these things will bring them fulfillment and happiness. However, Jesus reminds us that these pursuits can often leave us empty and unsatisfied, piercing our hearts with sorrow.
As believers, we are called to a different way of living. Our focus should not be on the things of this world, but on the kingdom of God. Seeking the kingdom means aligning our minds and hearts with God's purposes and priorities. It means desiring to see His will done on earth as it is in heaven.
When we seek the kingdom of God, we are not driven by selfish ambitions or self-centered desires. Instead, our minds are programmed to prioritize God's kingdom and His righteousness. We seek to live in accordance with His Word, to love and serve others, and to honor Him in all that we do.
The amazing blessing of kingdom seeking is that when we make God's kingdom our primary pursuit, everything else falls into place. Jesus assures us that when we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, all these other things – the things we need, the desires of our hearts – will be added to us. Our Heavenly Father knows our needs and desires, and He promises to provide for us as we seek Him above all else.
Moreover, when we seek the kingdom of God, we experience a profound sense of peace. We are no longer consumed by the worries and anxieties that plague the world. Instead, we find rest and contentment in knowing that our lives are in God's hands. We trust that He will take care of us as we prioritize His kingdom.
Today, let us reflect on our hearts' desires and priorities. Are we seeking after the things of this world, or are we seeking the kingdom of God? Let us choose to align our minds and hearts with God's purposes, seeking His kingdom above all else. As we do so, we will experience the amazing blessing of peace, contentment, and the abundant provision that comes from seeking God's kingdom.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us of the incredible blessing that comes with seeking Your kingdom. Help us to align our minds and hearts with Your purposes and priorities. May we seek Your kingdom above all else, trusting that You will provide for our needs and desires. Fill us with Your peace as we live for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
