Genesis 12:1-3 "1 The Lord had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'"

Devotional:

Leading is not merely about holding a position of power or authority; it is about becoming a blessing to others. In Genesis 12, we see how God called Abram to leave his country and follow His leading. Through Abram's obedience, God promised to bless him and make him a blessing to others.

To understand the connection between leading and blessing, we must first define these terms. Leading involves guiding, directing, and influencing others towards a common purpose or goal. It requires taking responsibility and making decisions that impact the lives of those being led. On the other hand, blessing refers to God's favor, goodness, and provision poured out upon individuals or communities.

Leaders have the unique opportunity to be a blessing to those they lead. They inspire, motivate, and empower others to reach their full potential. True leaders understand that their role is not just about achieving personal success, but about positively impacting the lives of those around them. They use their influence to uplift, encourage, and support others, creating an environment where individuals can thrive.

In contrast, rulers may not necessarily be a blessing to those they govern. Rulers often rely on their position of power and authority to enforce their will upon others. Their focus is on maintaining control and dominance, rather than serving and blessing those under their rule. Rulers may demand obedience, but true leaders earn respect through their character, integrity, and genuine care for the well-being of others.

Leadership is not confined to a specific position or title. True leaders can emerge from any position, even from the last place. They lead by example, demonstrating humility, compassion, and a servant's heart. They understand that leadership is not about personal gain, but about bringing out the best in others and helping them achieve their potential.

As we reflect on the example of Abram, let us embrace the art of leadership. Let us recognize that leading is not about exerting power or control, but about becoming a blessing to others. May we strive to be leaders who inspire, uplift, and empower those around us. May we use our influence to bring about positive change and make a difference in the lives of others. And as we do so, may we experience the blessings that come from faithfully following God's leading and being a blessing to others.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Abram and his obedience to Your leading. Help us to understand that leadership is not about power or control, but about becoming a blessing to others. Teach us to lead with humility, compassion, and a servant's heart. May we use our influence to inspire, uplift, and empower those around us. Grant us the wisdom to lead with integrity and to make a positive impact in the lives of others. In Jesus' name, amen.
